Video Request – Soldering Fine Chains without Melting 2

Fire Scale

Part Two of Two
A recent email from an At The Bench member prompted Andrew to make this two part film.

It does not matter what size torch you have, it’s how you control the flame that matters. The small hand held butane torch is more than ample to solder small fine chains but direct the flame in the wrong direction and you have ruined and melted the chain. Not so bad if the chain is yours but could be a disaster if you were repairing the chain for a client.

With the aid of some home made solutions Andrew shows you how not to melt the chain and how to keep the cleaning up to a minimum.

When it is time to upgrade your equipment you are tempted into pages of similar types of equipment but which should you choose?

This is what happened to one of our members when she came to choose a new pendant drill to replace a hand held drill that caused her an injury whilst polishing. She was unsure as to what handpiece to purchase and what sizes were available.

In this film, Andrew shows the various styles of handpieces and demonstrates what each one does.
