Replacing the settings of worn rings is something…..
Replacing the settings of worn rings is something that usually works out a more satisfactory repair than trying to build up worn prongs and underbezels. Most of the time you are trying to build up on metal that just isn't there and the repair is just satisfactory and if you are using solder to build up the claws then it will wear away quicker then solid metal.
When you start to take a ring appart it can seem very daunting but providing you look carefully at the original ring and don’t panic, then a replacenent setting will just pop’ straight back in the gap. Perhaps the replacement setting is slightly different in dimensions and this is when you have to be prepared to make some slight modifications.
