With the manufacturers now producing more hollow chains, a slightly different technique is needed.
Hollow chains can be tricky to solder. They seem to trap all the dirt and muck within the links so by putting a flame on the links straight away will result in a burnt blackened link. Clean the chain first before you start work on it.
Repairs – Replacing a Gate Bracelet Link
The idea of a repair is to make it invisible but it seems that the previous person who repaired this bracelet had other ideas.
Here, Andrew replaces a gate bracelet link which has become lost, with a link purchased from bullion dealer. The previous person who had repaired the bracelet did not carry out a satisfactory repair. This is often the case when it comes to jewelery repairers who try to make a ‘quick buck’ and cut corners.
